In January 2022, Swiss gold exports to China rose to their highest level since December 2016. This year, China imported 70 tons of Swiss gold, while in 2016 it bought only 14 tons of precious metal. During the same period, the supply of precious metal to India decreased. In 2022, the volume of gold exports from Switzerland to India was 11.7 kg, compared with 28.4 tons in 2016.
According to official figures, the total volume of yellow metal shipped from Switzerland this year amounted to 115.7 tons. China and India are the largest consumers of gold, while Switzerland is the world's largest centre for processing and trading precious metal. A large amount of demand from China helped keep the gold exchange rate at its best: this year the indicator has grown by about 5%.
